Post-Divorce Family Structure and Parenting Quality on Child Development

Abstract
This study explores how post-divorce family structure influences parenting quality and child development toward achieving optimal psychological well-being through a qualitative literature review. Divorce transforms family dynamics fundamentally and demands adjustment from all members particularly in parenting patterns and interparental relationships. Analysis reveals that parenting quality and coparenting cooperation serve as key determinants of child outcomes following divorce. Children from divorced families can attain positive psychological adjustment when they receive consistent emotional support and have access to adequate resources. Protective factors such as warm parent-child relationships, strong social support networks, and involvement in positive activities help children develop resilience to divorce-related stress. Successful family adaptation depends on parents' capacity to prioritize children's interests above personal conflicts and individual preferences. The findings underscore that parenting quality matters more than family structure for child development outcomes. This conceptual understanding provides foundations for developing evidence-based interventions that support divorced families and promote child well-being. The study contributes to theoretical advancement in understanding family dynamics and practical guidance for professionals working with divorced families.
